Generally no. If a team is forming across the world with new contributors, they start as researchers. We consider their writing sample, writing prompt submissions, participation in research, attendance at meetings, and contributions in meetings when deciding the co-authors. In rare cases when a fully formed team loses a co-author and none of the researchers are able to step in, we do recruit directly for such an opening.
